I hear them all the time about various things, but I never believe them. I always feel as though most modern compliments are given as a means to make the person giving the compliment seem relevant. Most times they’re given on social media so others can see them. Perhaps it’s the narcissism of others bleeding over into the realm of complimentary self-service? I always feel patronized after someone compliments me, especially since I know I’m not worth complimenting. It makes me want to ask, “what do you want from me?”
