The Gonzo Journals
January 27th, 2023

It’s no secret that Social Media drama fuels your popularity on social media. For example: I posted an article about who I considered to be the top 5 most vile indie horror authors in the business. In the process, I managed to piss off a couple of guys with a horror podcast. People shared the shit out of it.
Once they arrived at my site, they also noticed I had about a thousand other posts they’d never noticed before. Some of them point fingers at certain assholes within different communities I associate with, and my website caught fire! Yesterday? Not so much.
As a matter of fact, I have seen an 80% decrease in my readers since I’ve reverted to posts about horror films and life in general. Apparently, fingering is all anyone is interested in. Yes, pun intended. I’m cool with it. I honestly don’t want a bunch of poons coming to my own little personal chunk of the internet to start static. It’s not social media. I pay for the site. Get off my fucking lawn!
Anyway, I’d recently deleted my Twitter account. I hardly ever used it and the whole Elon Musk thing was annoying. I thought I was an attention whore narcissist until that guy came onto the scene. He tops the taco.
I deleted it because he unblocked Donald Trump’s account as well as several other of his cohorts. I’m not a huge fan of what those people began on January 6th, 2021, and think people of that caliber should be gagged and thrown into a river. A deep, cold one. I’m embarrassed to be an American sometimes, or at least the definition of “American” that the MAGA Republicans have created.
Now, all the other social media platforms are following Twitter’s lead. As much as I hate it, social media is necessary to maintain an indie artist career, so I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place. Taking that into consideration, I decided to activate another Twitter account but, this time, being more considerate regarding who I follow. More horror and less politics, which has often been mistaken as horror over the last five years or so. Still, I know the difference, and I plan on being cautious.
In the end, The Gonzo Journals is the best place to find and interact with me. If you feel saucy, you can follow me on Twitter @howlgrowlsnarl, but I might not see your notification for several days. I have removed most of these apps from my phone to allow for less distractions. It’s taking a lot of self-control to do this since social media is this country’s worst addiction. You think quitting drinking or smoking is hard? I’ve done both in the last few years and ignoring social media is much, much worse!
In the meantime, happy Friday! If you like what you just read, please like, follow, subscribe, or all three.
Peace…
